3 Reasons why need to pack a Groundsheet

Groundsheets, Footprints, and Floorsavers – they go by many names. These very useful layers of fabric are a crucial part of your camping gear.

1) Prolong the Life of Your Tent
Groundsheets protect your tent floor against the jagged tent-puncturing Earth. Consider it more of an “insurance policy” for that nice new tent you bought. Think of it this way: It would be better to replace a groundsheet than an entire tent right?

2) Extra Layer of Waterproofing
They help waterproof the tent floor, reduce condensation, and add an extra layer to let the tent ‘breathe’ – especially on a grassy surface that is susceptible to dew. Besides waterproofing, they add an area for you to place your gear. In some cases the extra room where the tent breathes traps air and will actually keep you warmer. Some tents – like our Wolverine EBNS allow the end user to place their gear outside the tent but under the rainfly on the groundsheet. If you have a groundsheet your gear remains nice and dry safe from the elements.

3) Keeps Your Tent Clean
Lastly, groundsheets make it easy to mark your campsite area before setting up your tent. Groundsheets also help when it comes time to pack up your campsite. The groundsheet helps “leave no trace behind” so the campsite looks just as it did when you found it. In muddy or wet conditions it’s easier to clean a groundsheet than your entire tent.
