Looking for something to do around Lake Martin in Alabama. Head to the Lake Martin Dam and check out the John B. Scott trail. The John B. Scott trail is 4.7 miles that weaves along the Tallapoosa River through old growth hardwoods and along several creeks. The trail starts and ends in the north parking lot on Goldmine Road. The road is aptly named since there used to be an old gold mine here. If you are a rock climber there is some great rock formations for you to scramble up. More information on that down below. Keep your eyes open and you might just spot one of the Bald Eagles that call Lake Martin home. Around midway through the trail you will get to the 2nd tallest point in Elmore county with beautiful view of the surrounding area. There is a sturdy bench you can rest on after the hike up the hill. This trail and many others around the lake are made and maintained by CRATA (Cherokee Ridge Alpine Trail Association). They do an incredible job and create some great memories no matter what trail you choose.
